As one might expect of a land without roads, most homes in the 19th and early 20th centuries were built near the all important piers and saltwater, and especially within walking distance of the "working harbors" where the sawmills, boatbuilding, timber and fishing industries were concentrated. Therefore, we find most historic homes in the southeastern sector of Bainbridge, where Eagle and Blakely Harbors are located. Employees walked to work at these two harbors from Eagledale, Winslow, Yeomalt and West Blakely.
